Grafton-Underwood

Recently, while in England for a work trip, I had the opportunity to visit the area where my grandfather was stationed during the Second World War. Grandpa was a B-17 navigator and was stationed at Grafton-Underwood, which is about an hour and a half by car from Cambridge. There's nothing left of the airfield really, but there is a monument at the location of the approach end of one of the former runways. There is also church in the hamlet of Grafton-Underwood that has a stained-glass window dedicated "in remembrance of those who gave their lives for freedom during World War II while serving at Grafton-Underwood 1942-1945, especially those members of the 384th Bomb Group (H) of the United States Air Force." It was pretty moving being inside that peaceful church by myself on a rainy morning the day after D-day, think about the significance of that dedication.

Happy Easter

At the Easter brunch that Jill organized. The rain held off (barely) for the egg hunt.

Happy 4th Birthday JR!

Jill rented the pavilion at one of the base parks and JR had a "Planes"-themed birthday party on Friday with some his friends and classmates. Happy birthday big guy!

Birthday bike

JR got a bike for his fourth birthday. They assembled it especially for him at the bike shop. He hopped right on it and took it for a spin as soon as the rain stopped.

JR and Dad time

JR and I got to hang out for a few hours this morning. We went onto base because there was a scheduled performance by the Italian aerial demo team, the Tricolore, and while we were waiting for them we went to look at the fire trucks nearby. One of the firefighters took some time to talk to JR and even gave him a little tour of the firehouse and a couple patches. Big morning for a little boy.

Joey at the playground pt. 2

More video of Joey at the playground last weekend. :)

Almost walking

Here's a video of Joey at the playground last weekend. He's pretty close to walking on his own. With something to hold onto he gets around pretty well.
